Let’s Make Some Horse Treats!

Because of Saddle box, we have been given a very unique opportunity to have many different recipes for making our own homemade horse treats. There is an entire page dedicated to different treats that you can make in your own kitchen. You have loads of choices when it comes to making special treats for the horses you love, and you don’t have to run out to the tack store and spend a lot of money on fancy horse treats.

And this time of year baking is on overload at my house. And thankfully, I have 2 horses of my own, and a couple of horsey friends from work that have horses too. And I thought it would be nice to make some homemade horse treats to give to them for the holiday.

All I had to do was decide which horse treats I was going to be making. I decided on two, the Bridle Bits treats, and the Mustang Muffins. Both recipes are simple to make, with ingredients you probably already have, and they just look so pretty!

Unfortunately, I didn’t have any sprinkles for my mustang muffins, but I did have powdered sugar. So I made due with what I had. They aren’t as pretty as the Saddle Box mustang muffins, but they will do just fine.

Repurpose, Recycle, Reuse

Once I decided on which treats to make, I had to come up with a way to present the treats. Sure, I could go and buy containers to put them in, but I wanted something handmade to give as gifts. I also love to recycle and reuse things I already have that I don’t want to just throw away. And since I am a coffee drinker, I go through coffee like nobody’s business. I have lots of empty coffee cans that I am always saving. And these are perfect for putting horse treats inside of.

But I didn’t want to give these gorgeous horse treats in an old can of coffee, so I decided to decorate the cans.

Decorating coffee cans is really easy, and fun. There are so many ways to decorate them! You could paint them. You could add wrapping paper. You could paint them and personalize them. Like I said, so many ways to dress up a coffee can. And then you have a beautiful container to present your treats in.

The decorated cans make a nice homemade gift, and they can be reused. Once the horses have devoured the treats inside, the container can be reused and refilled with even more horse treats!

There is just something so special about giving a gift to someone. Sure, you can go to the store and just buy something, just for the sake of giving a gift. But to me, spending a little bit of time on the creation, and actually making something for someone means so much more.

A Gift From The Heart

Homemade gifts with some thought are so much better than just buying something because you feel obligated to do so. And if you have horsey friends, I am sure they would love something like this.

It’s the whole presentation, from the can to the treats inside that will make your friends say “Wow, this is awesome!”

So this year, instead of spending money on something as a gift, why not make a gift? I think you will see that the recipient will be really happy, and I know you will be happy with the fact that you made it.
