Hey guys, it’s Krista with SaddleBox and in today’s video I’m going to show you what to do if something goes wrong under saddle.

Alright, so this is Ray and she’s going to demonstrate and emergency stop with bending your horse’s head around. So say Laramie were to spook or buck or whatever the case may be and Ray needed to stop her very fast. So what she’s going to do is pull her head around just like that and Laramie stops. Perfect.

So when you bend a horse’s head around, you take away their feet, basically, and you take away their forward motion, so then it gives you time to react to whatever is going on and save yourself, basically.

Horseback Riding: The EMERGENCY Fast Stop Technique

So what you’re going to do if something were to go wrong, your horse were to spook, buck, whatever the case may be, maybe you just feel uncomfortable, is you can take ahold of their head like this and bend them around. You basically prohibit their feet from moving and you gain control back.

So the only thing she can really do if her head is bent is just kind of go in a circle like this. And you want to do this instead of just pulling straight back because a horse can still run through your hands or jump, buck, whatever the case may be. But if you take ahold of their head and gain control this way, it’s much safer and you have an emergency break.

That’s it for this one guys. Thank you for watching and I’ll see you in the next one. Bye!
