Hey everybody, it’s Krista with SaddleBox and for today’s video I’m going to be showing you the proper placement of a bit in your horse’s mouth.

Okay, so some people like to go off of the two-wrinkle rule, and basically what that is is there will be two wrinkles in the horse’s chin here, and that tells them if the bit is in the mouth correctly. That’s not necessarily what I do, but it is a good indicator that the bit is in a good spot in the horse’s mouth. I like for my horse to carry their own bit.

I like for it to be a little bit looser because I want them to not have constant pressure. When you have the two-wrinkle rule going, it kind of puts constant pressure in their mouth and they can get a little bit dull to the bit. So I like for them to carry their own bit and have it a little more loose in their mouth.

How to Place a Bit In Your Horse's Mouth

But with that being said, you don’t want it to be too loose in their mouth. This is a bit that is way too loose. As you can see, I can see the corner of her mouth here. You want this to at least touch the corner of the mouth, you don’t want it to be where they can just play with it like that.

That is a bit that is too loose and it’s going to be knocking on the front of her teeth; you don’t want that. So again, make sure that it’s not too, too tight, but it’s also not too loose.

Alright y’all, that’s it for this one, I hope you enjoyed it and I’ll see you in the next video. Bye guys.
