Hey guys, it’s Krista with SaddleBox and in today’s video I’m going to show you how to put bell boots or overreach boots on your horse.

Okay, so to start off, you’re going to want to make sure your horse’s leg is nice and clean. As you can see, her leg is dirt-free, so I’m ready to put my boots on.

Now, some people call these bell boots, some people call these over-reach boots. These are by Classy Equine and they’re mostly used in western disciplines. The English ones look a bit more like this. But today, I’m going to be showing you how to put these on because they are a little bit less specific, they usually can turn and whatnot, whereas these have a front and a back.

So you’re going to want this part, where you Velcro, in the front, and as you can see, it has this thing right here where it’s going to fit right here on your horse, right under their pastern. I’m just going to wrap it around here. And what this does is it protects your horse’s back legs from coming up and striking this part of their foot.

So you see this used a lot in barrel racing, jumping, reining, just a lot of intense equine sports that we do. I’ve personally seen horses split these in half barrel racing, so I feel like it’s super, super important to always ride with them if you’re going to do harder events, things that are harder on your horse’s legs, especially barrel racing or jumping or something like that where over-reach is very common.

How to Put Bell Boots on Your Horse

Now, I do know people who will never ride without these, just for precaution. But I like to use them when I know I’m going to be doing more than just trail riding or warming up.

So I’m going to be showing you how I put these on with sport boots just so you can see, because these are most commonly paired with sport boots. So again, you’re going to take it like this, with the Velcro in the front, cup it around your horse’s leg, pull it snug, and then fold it in like that.

Here it is one more time. I’m going to do it from the front so you all can get a better view. So I’m going to take it like this, cup it from the back, pull it nice and snug, wrap it there, I have a little bit of over-wrap, but that’s okay, and then just bring it around, just like that.

And you want to make sure that these do not turn around, so they need to be nice and snug. If you’re having trouble, like say this were to come up all the way to here or it would be too big for her, you want to go down a size. This is a medium. And also, you could be having trouble to where you can’t get this Velcro here, that means you need to go to a larger size.

Alright y’all, that’s it for this one. I hope you enjoyed it and I’ll see you in the next one. Bye guys!
