Hey guys, it’s Krista with SaddleBox and in today’s video I’m going to be showing you a super easy way to get bot fly eggs off your horse.

I wanted to show you some of the places that bot flies will lay their eggs. As you can see, these little dots right here are bot fly eggs, they’re kind of like a golden color. So they will lay them on the chest area, on where their leg starts from their chest, and then most commonly they’ll lay them on the knee area and then on the inside of the knee. As you can see, there’s a lot more right here on the inside of her knee.

So that’s the common area you’ll find them. They like to lay here because the horses will go to scratch their knee or something and then they may ingest an egg and then that’s how the egg becomes a parasite.

So I’m going to show you a really easy way to remove these. This is literally all you need. Ladies, you probably know exactly what this is. This is just a little facial hair remover, it’s a razor basically.

How to Remove Bot Fly Eggs From Your Horse

You can find these on Amazon for as little as $5 for a pack of three. I use them for my eyebrows and stuff. But one of my students reminded me of a way that this could be used to remove bot flies.

So here are bot fly eggs. I have removed the guard from this and I’m just going to take it and go in a downwards motion, just kind of stroking the hair. I’ll start at the top, just like that. You can see how that’s removing them pretty efficiently. There we go.

So it is going to remove a little bit of hair, but it’s not that bad. It would be a lot worse if you were to stroke upwards like this. But you can see that just kind of takes all the eggs with it down here, and then you can just kind of brush them off.

So the single eggs are obviously a lot easier to remove. There’s just two right here, so I’m just going to stroke it once, and done.

Alright guys, that’s it for this video. Thank you for watching and I’ll see you in the next one. Bye guys!
