Hey guys, it’s Krista with SaddleBox and in today’s video I’m going to be showing you the way to tie a hay bag in your trailer.

Okay, so I have taken my string from my hay bag – generally they have two strings like this, some of them are attached this way so I’ll run it through like that. But I’ve just taken it through right here. And most trailers have two, or at least one spot you can tie your hay bag too. So this is mine right here. I also have my latch. But if I didn’t have this, I would probably put it on one of these bars.

Generally speaking, most trailers have a designated place for this. But one thing I’m going to make sure to do is I’m going to make sure to bring it up pretty high.

This is really, really important if you have a horse that paws or just likes to get their foot into things because they could potentially get a foot stuck in here and that could be really, really bad. So I highly recommend you put your hay bags up pretty high.

The Right Way to Tie a Hay Bag in a Horse Trailer

I’m going to start tying it. Basically all I’m going to do is a slip knot, kind of like what you would do if you were tying your horse. So I made a D-shaped loop right here and I’m going to loop this back just like that, pull it tight, and then this is where I can pull the whole thing off and I don’t want my horse to grab this and have the whole thing drop, so I’m just going to bring this through and do like that.

So if they were to pull, it’s not going to come down, but then I can still come in here and very quickly get it undone like that.

So another thing I recommend doing when you’re hauling your horse is to always have them wear a fly mask. Usually when you’re going down the road, this stuff will kind of fly around everywhere and you don’t want it getting in their eyes or their nose or anything.

Also things coming from outside of the trailer, not all trailers have windows that you can open and close easily; mine just has this open right here. So litter, grass, hay, whatever it might be, I I don’t want that getting in the trailer and hurting my horses’ eyes or anything.

Alright y’all, that’s it for this video. I hope you enjoyed it and I’ll see you in the next one. Bye guys!
